AI Interior Design: The Sequel No One Asked For
AI vs. My Ugly Living Room (Round 2)
AI vs. My Ugly Living Room (Round 2)
A while back, I let AI redesign a living room.
Not my actual living room, mind you — but a room that looked suspiciously like mine if you squinted hard enough and ignored the popcorn ceiling.
The results? Shockingly good. One reader said the AI “had better taste than my ex.”
Naturally, I had to run it back.
But this time, I didn’t just hand over one photo. I went deeper — testing a few of the most popular AI interior design tools to see if any of them could actually fix a room that looks like a '90s sitcom set.
Let’s just say: the AI had opinions.
Here’s how it went:
RoomGPT gave me a sleek Scandi redesign in seconds. Clean lines, light wood, and plants. Lots of plants. It's the Zoomer starter pack of living rooms — but it works.
InteriorAI let me choose styles. I went “Rustic” and ended up with a barn-chic vibe. I half expected a goat to walk through the frame.
REimagineHome? Gorgeous results. Slow, yes — but it turned my faux leather couch into something that looks like it belongs in a design magazine. Which is to say: nothing like my actual couch.
These tools are wildly good — and getting better.
If you’re tempted to redecorate, or just want to see what your kitchen would look like with Moroccan tiles and a skylight, AI is ready for you.
I wrote up a full blog post comparing the top tools, complete with pros, cons, pricing, and links. It’s basically a homeowner’s cheat sheet for letting AI handle the design work.
