How to outsmart your competitors (with AI surveillance)
Use AI to scan their posts. Decode their angle. Craft the counterattack.
Spy vs. Spy — Competitive Research Gets a Glow-Up
“Keep your friends close—and your competitors under AI surveillance.”
– Some sneaky marketer, probably
This week, we’re playing AI detective.
Because sometimes the best marketing move isn’t reinventing the wheel…
It’s watching how your competitor rolls and then building a better one.
Let’s go full Mission: Marketing.
🔍 Step 1: Watch their feed, not their site
Most people analyze their competitor’s website.
But the gold is often in their social posts—especially on X (Twitter).
They’re showing you their angles, voice, and who they’re targeting in real time.
🧠 Prompt: “What’s their angle?”
“Analyze this X feed: [insert @handle]. What is their audience likely interested in? What tone and traits are they targeting?”
Grok crushes this. Claude can too (if you paste 5–10 posts).
ChatGPT works with copy/paste.
🛡️ Step 2: Flip the message
Once you know who they’re trying to reach—build a better offer.
Maybe it’s clearer.
Maybe it’s punchier.
Maybe it actually delivers.
🧠 Prompt: “Build the counter-message”
“Write 3 ad hook ideas that target the same audience but emphasize a different value or tone.”
Example:
Competitor: “All-in-one AI tools”
You: “All-in on one tool that actually works”
💥 Boom. Differentiation.
🕳️ Bonus Trick: Find the hole they’re not filling
Every competitor has blind spots.
Ask AI to find the gaps.
Prompt:
“Based on this content, what’s missing from their message? What unmet needs or overlooked angles could I use to stand out?”
This works with social posts, emails, websites—anything public.
🧪 AI in the Wild: When the recon goes sideways
Tried an AI recon tool recently. It confidently told me a local plumbing company was “positioned to dominate the crypto niche.”
📉🤖💅
So yeah… maybe don’t trust the first AI take. But do use it to spark better ideas.
🎉 Just for fun: What’s your AI spy codename?
If your AI assistant was a secret agent…
Would it be:
Prompt Bourne
The Copy Whisperer
Sir Clicks-a-Lot
GPT-007
Agent Autocomplete?
Hit reply and tell me your AI’s spy name.
(Or just say “Prompt” and I’ll send you the full Competitive Recon Prompt Pack.)
